Oh Christmas Tree!

We like to get our tree out and decorated on Thanksgiving weekend or as soon thereafter as possible. Our long, dark winter nights benefit from twinkling lights! Unfortunately for us the lights on our artificial pre-strung Christmas tree had reached the end of their life and we had a lot of dead bulbs. We looked for a new tree, but couldn't find what we wanted, so we unstrung all the lights on the tree and then we put on lights we had in our Christmas boxes. It was not fun and it took three hours of hard work. (What happened to those photos? Lost with the dryer socks I guess.)

Thanksgiving Day Activities

I took a few minutes on Thanksgiving Day to take some photos of what the kids where doing. (It took me three months to post these photos, but I did get it done!)

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving Day, too!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Some turkey art, from Viva/Lincoln/Evan:

We have a new "tradition"!  For the second year in a row some of the kids have gone to check out the Great Alaskan Shoot Out with their Dad.  We'll see if the tradition lasts, as apparently the Shoot Out is struggling/may not be around next year....

Everyday Life: More October

Bentley, Jake, and Viva whittling on the lawn spread out so they don't hurt each other.

Matt enjoys checkers with Lincoln and Evan.
They are quite good at the game.

Lincoln checking out the newest Lego catalog.
He just like Jake in this regard.

Viva reading in a box. The girl reads everywhere and anywhere.

Kara and kids playing a math game about prime numbers.

Magformers are very popular in our home.

The three older children playing Minecraft together.

The boys using pool noodles as swords.

Viva constructing a castle that Evan got as a gift.
He and Lincoln then colored it.

Lincoln using pattern blocks. Bentley playing online chess.

A free-form pattern block construct.
I don't know who made it, but it's lovely.

Everyday Life: October

Grandma Vicki was over for Evan's birthday.

The kidlets collecting our annual 1/2 cup of lingonberries near the end of the driveway.

Viva is practicing her math facts.
Why the other children are all gathered around her is a mystery.

Lincoln putting together a small Lego.

What every home with young boys needs: a crate of swords.

Viva reading while eating ants on a log.

Lincoln and Evan now build their own tracks!

Lincoln and Evan doing mazes and pattern blocks.
It's our version of preschool.

Matt and the boys playing Go Fish.
The game was lost for months, but then was found. Arg!
