It's Spring!

The blog has been woefully neglected for months now. We find it hard to keep all the balls in the air at our home and this one rolled into a corner. I'm going to try (yet again) to post a few posts. Here is my first one, then I hope to work backwards with the photos I took over the past three months.

Technically it's spring, but in the far north that does not mean the tulips are popping up. Regardless of the temperatures, though, the kids are ready to get outside more. They insisted on getting their bikes out weeks ago. Then they begged to use the fire pit.

It's fun to light a fire pit when it's dark out, but Alaskan summers are not dark, so you have to use your fire pit in the off season if dark is your goal!

Snapshot: School

Here the kids are on a typical school day. Bentley, Jake, and Viva are in the school room working on various assignments. They choose what to work on from a list of assignments. This approach to school work has its pluses and minuses, as do all approaches Kara has tried over the years.

Lincoln and Evan were having reading time. They do not usually work in the school room. I think Evan was a little disgruntled with me for telling him it was reading time because he had already read that day. Whenever we have this discussion, I tell him you can't spend too much time reading when you're a new reader. He likes to read, but much prefers to do it on his time schedule.

The Littlest Reader
