Painting: Progress!

The painters worked hard Monday to Friday and accomplished great things. They painted 11 rooms in the same color and 1 room in a new color and half finished 2 more rooms, leaving only 3 rooms not yet started. They plan to be done on Tuesday.

Kara and I worked hard all week moving stuff to make it easier for the painters. We created a colossal mess and we will not be done putting stuff back in its place by Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Or Friday. Maybe not even by the end of the month!

I told Kara we should hire a teenager to watch the children so we can work like crazy to get it all put back quickly, but Kara said the problem wasn't the children it was her bad hip. As the week progressed her limping got worse and worse. She has a hard time climbing the stairs right now. I suggested we hire the teen to do the moving. Kara can sit and direct the work that needs to be done. Of course, that is easier said than done. Each item has to be accessed as to whether it’s a keeper or not before it goes back anywhere.

Hiring a painter seemed like it would make the job quick and easy and it did as far as the painting went, but moving every item in a room tends to inspire a spring cleaning mood. When a book shelf is moved out, it's a good time to vacuum behind the shelf and dust down the surfaces and reorganize the books as they are put back on the shelves. Although, I'm not doing too much of the last because we'll be hauling all those books off the shelves again in a few weeks to put in new carpet. Then I will organize the books.

Here's a look at some of the colors on the walls in our newly painted home. This is the main color throughout the house (walls and many ceilings) that we kept the same because we all like it:

Our bedroom is a chocolate brown and we kept it the same because the en suite bathroom has lots of tile and the chocolate color is a great match with the tile.

Lincoln and Evan's room was painted a pastel green when we moved in. Kara painted two of the walls blue while Mark and I were on vacation last May. This bedroom, the schoolroom, and the laundry room are the only rooms the painters did not paint.

Bentley, Jake and Viva agreed on a lovely green shade for their room. It's the color of new leaves. The room reminds me of spring.

The downstairs family room was the same as the rest of the house and Kara wanted to spruce it up, so she suggested a teal-turquoise color. We picked out a color and asked the painter his advice. He suggested one shade darker on the paint card. He was right. It's lovely! Well, the paint color is, the mess in the room is overwhelming.

Kara and Matt's room is not repainted yet. They chose a light blue (not pastel). Here is the color the room currently is painted:

All the different room colors will provide lovely backdrops for photo portraits of our beautiful grandchildren.
