Kara has been in the hospital on full bed rest since last Tuesday. The baby is not due until October 11th, so the medical staff is doing their best to keep the baby tucked in the womb for as much longer as possible. (The baby is now 27 weeks and 5 days. Preemies this age do quite well, but it's far, far better to be born full-term.)
The medication Kara is on to stop preterm labor makes her drowsy and nauseous and foggy-brained so she sleeps or tries to sleep most of the day. She's not interested in reading, watching tv, or using her computer. (It's not much of a vacation from her hectic life. *sigh*) A sleeping pill knocks her out at night. Matt visits her two or three times a day. We've taken the children to see her twice, but she's not perky enough to enjoy visitors even when they are her favorite people on the planet. Despite the bad side effects of the medication, when I visited Kara today she told me that she was okay.
Grandma Vicki's visit couldn't have come at a better time for our household. It's been a lot easier having an extra adult in the house to help with the children while we try and settle into a new routine. Kara does a lot around the house and with the children and all those duties have to be reassigned. Grandma Vicki has extended her visit for a while longer. I'm really grateful to have her help.
The doctors manage Kara's care on a day by day basis. We do not know when she will come home.
