Alaska Rock Gym

I cannot keep up with these children. We take photos, we blog, but they do too much for me to keep it all posted in a timely manner! So here we are half way through a new week and we haven't finished posting about last week. Heck the photo dump from today was from the last two months!

Anyway--to get to the point--Kara signed the trio up for a weeklong camp at the rock gym. Weeklong means they went three days for two hours each day. When Kara first proposed the idea, Bentley and Jake liked it, but Viva said no. No?! Our monkey girl said no to climbing walls? I was puzzled. I asked her why she didn't want to climb walls at the rock gym and she said that she didn't want to fall off the wall. I assured her that she would be wearing a harness and couldn't fall too far. She agreed to give it a try.

Bentley loved it and climbed high (not the highest wall, but high) from the first day. Jake was a little more hesitant and it took him two days to scale the higher heights. Viva was stubborn and never conquered the high walls. I was there one time when a young man was working with her. It was rather amusing. They had a standoff. She insisted she was done when she wasn't even half way up the wall. She wanted down NOW. He tried his hardest to get her to keep going, but she refused. And refused. He brought her down and she immediately tried to take her harness off. He told her she should go right back up and try again. He pointed out which hand holds and foot holds to use. She glared at him. She went up, but didn't make it any higher. Did she win that one? Can you win when you stall yourself out?

I must, in her defense, tell you that she was the smallest one at the camp. The hand and foot holds were a stretch for her and not for her brothers. However, she could have reached the holds if she wanted to. The real issue is that she likes to be in control. FULL CONTROL. She can do that when climbing the doorways in our home, but not when climbing the rock walls at the gym.
