Beaded Ornaments

Plastic bead ornaments are great fun to make with all ages. Children as young as two can string the beads on pipe cleaners. Teens like to make them. Young adults will give them a try. Anyone who likes to create has fun making them. There are many different designs you can make with plastic beads and pipe cleaners. I have made icicles, snowflakes, candy canes, wreaths, Christmas trees, and angels. I have patterns for candles, but have not made one.

It's not always easy finding the beads you need to make a particular design. If necessary you can improvise and redesign to use what you have. Candy canes and wreaths are the easiest ornaments requiring only tribeads and ribbon for the wreath. Icicles require five different beads and snowflakes one to six different beads. This past week I visited Michaels, JoAnn and our local bead store and found a very incomplete selection at each store. I need to find a good online supplier and order in July. (The Christmas colors are out of stock this time of year or double the cost.)

How does this relate back to the trio (since this is their blog, not mine)? At the social for the Daisy Scouts that Kara hosted at our house last Saturday I set up a table for the girls to make beaded candy canes and wreaths. After the party Bentley and Jakes asked to make some, too. They worked on them one other day, too, so we have a few candy canes and wreaths to give away as well as keep. Bentley has used his to decorate the house. He's hung the candy canes in the kitchen, on the cupboard door knobs, and on the chandelier above the dining table. (I think Jake has his hung on the chandelier, too.)

Bentley chose traditional Christmas colors for his ornaments.

Jake and Viva hard at work. They chose the multi-colored beads.

Please note that the 17 month old does NOT have a pipe cleaner.
He does have a cat play toy that he should not have.

I told B his wreath bow was upside down, but he said that's how he wanted it.
