Unique Christmas Ornaments

When the trio heard that the Christmas tree was going up, they immediately asked to start making Christmas ornaments. They asked for the popsicle sticks and glue dots as those were a big hit last year. I pulled out a nice selection of wooden sticks and 400 glue dots and the trio went to work. They worked for the next three days on their own with only a few requests for help or advice from me.

Bentley favored simple, clean lines in his designs. He eschewed the use of sequins or rhinestones to decorate his work. When he started building a house, I suggested he switch from glue dots to Tacky glue. I gave him a little help on the house and he allowed Viva to help him, too. Viva was quite excited to get access to a pool of glue. Bentley made a plane (not a bird!), a butterfly, a tree, a four-pointed star, and a shield.

Jake made the largest ornaments. His early works he added glitz to, but his later work is not as ornamented. Jake started making houses (the largest ornament was an apartment building) and then he made an airplane which he proceeded to play with instead of working on ornaments. He was going to spell out the word Christmas one large letter at a time, but I told him we had nowhere to display such a large project. (The past month he's really been into spelling words out.)

Viva made fewer ornaments than her brothers because she really blinged hers out and that took time and she helped Bentley work on his house. She gifted her first work of art to Grandma Karen and Grandpa Tim, so it wasn't available to photograph later in the week. You can see it in the photo of her working on ornaments. It's quite fancy. Viva enjoyed using the wiggle eyes. She told me one ornament was an ice cream cone. I asked her why the eyes on an ice cream cone? She said it was monster ice cream because monsters like to eat eyeballs. Okay...

Lincoln wanted to join the party. At first his siblings objected, but he showed them that he could be well-behaved. He played with a bag of wooden sticks taking the sticks out and putting them back in. I did not give him glue dots. Maybe next year...with help.
