Children who go to public school have to keep a pretty rigid schedule during the week. School starts at 8:15AM or 9AM, so they have to get up an hour or more before that. They have to keep to a strict bed time to be able to get up at 8AM or earlier. It's brutal on their weekday social life.
Our three young school-aged children do not keep to such an inflexible schedule. If an opportunity to do something fun comes on a school night, it's not a problem. When Grandma Karen asks to have an overnighter with the children on a Thursday night, no one here objects. The trio can go, stay up late, and come home the next day at 10AM or noon. School will still get done, just a little later than usual.
The kidlets went to Grandma Karen's on a Wednesday night last month. Tonight it's a Thursday night. Everyone's happy when they have a sleep over. They get to go someplace they love, we get to have a little more downtime than usual. The only person in the household who isn't totally okay with the plan is Lincoln. He wants to go with them. Kara reminded him that he'd get to have daddy all to himself...what about Evan? I guess he'll be with mommy or grandma?
