Growing up in Alaska I had very limited access to outdoor swimming pools. To me they are almost mythical. I like them A LOT--as long as they are warm. Cold swimming pools are vile. They look promising, but don't live up to their potential. A warm (but not too warm) pool is the ultimate luxury on a hot day or better yet, a warm night with a clear, starry sky above.
Lucky for us, Mark's parents own a pool. It's even enclosed in screening, so it's protected from snakes and geckos and other unwelcome guests. I really like their pool. The children do, too.
Since it's February the pool's water temperature has to be heated up quite a few degrees and that takes energy, so we have to settle for a little less than perfect pool temperature. Nonetheless we all had great fun frolicking in the pool. B, J, & V all stayed in as long as we allowed them to--well past the time their little teeth were chattering.
It all comes back to attitude. If you think you're going to have fun, you have fun. It doesn't matter if you're cold or not. Or if there's sand, wind, and water.
