Visit Florida: Travel by Plane

Most adults think that an airplane trip is a reason NOT to go somewhere. The cost of air travel and sitting for hours are not fun. That's how adults think.

The trio thinks airplane flights are--to quote Jake--soooooo cool. All three were excited to go on a plane to Florida.

The first leg of our trip, Jake, Viva, and I shared a row. Right across from us were opa and Bentley. Bentley was thrilled to have a window seat. The seat in the middle was empty when we boarded, but we warned B that someone might claim it. If they do, we asked, do you want to offer to change seats with them so that you can sit right next to opa or do you want to stay in the window seat next to someone you don't know?

It was an difficult decision, but Bentley told opa he'd stay in his window seat even if a stranger claimed the middle seat. I was surprised at his choice. No one claimed the middle seat, so he wasn't put to the test.

During the flight Viva had a small disagreement with an inebriated passenger. I took her to use the bathroom and we got held up in the aisle when the guy walking in front of us stopped to chat with his buddy and chug a drink. When his buddy noticed Viva standing there he told her how pretty she was. He held out his hand to shake hands with her. She quickly hid her hands behind her back and gave him The Glare.

He was not properly chastised. He laughed and then he gently poked her tummy. She glared harder. Finally his buddy decided to continue on down the aisle and we got to move on. As we passed the overly friendly buddy Viva punched him twice in the arm. Another passenger a few rows down watched the little drama and he thought her reaction was pretty amusing. I did, too. Other than that the flight went really well.

We had a two hour layover in Seattle. We found a children's play area in the airport and the children ran around. We ate French fries and shared a Wendy's frosty. Well, four of us did. Bentley had milk.

Our second flight took off just before 11PM. Viva got the chance to glare at a few more people who addressed remarks to her. Fortunately they kept their hands to themselves, so she did, too. (One guy apologized for upsetting her. I just laughed it off.) Bentley conked out next to opa and slept the majority of the four and half hour flight. Jake and Viva had a harder time getting comfortable enough to sleep. They got less than three hours of sleep. Not good when you're used to nine or ten hours like Viva is.

Considering her lack of sleep, she did very well on Wednesday. She only had a few short meltdowns. We strong armed the trio into taking a two hour nap.
