On Saturday my sister Karla came to visit her mother (who lives with us--oddly enough her mother is also my mother) and she brought along Koltan her 16 year old son. The children were ecstatic. An older boy cousin who visits and plays with them is a rare treat. Bentley was working with his Snap Circuit Jr when Koltan arrived and so Koltan sat down with Bentley and did a few circuits. Unfortunately Koltan sat in Viva's chair while working with Bentley. This really ticked Viva off. She tried pushing him off the chair, but he's bigger than she is. Finally she went into another room and drew a picture of Koltan sitting in her chair and put a big X through him.
While Viva was doing her therapeutic artwork, Bentley decided to show off to Koltan some of our Lego collection. Koltan was duly impressed with the almost finished Death Star. Then they went upstairs to check out Lego Central. After looking at different Lego creations, Bentley showed Koltan his minifigure collection.
We had fun quizzing Koltan as to the names of the minifigures. He was a good sport and did his best. He correctly named a few of them: Skier, Fisherman, Diver, and Batman. He almost got another couple but when Koltan guessed "Dracula!" Bentley shook his head and said "No, it's a vampire." And when Koltan said "Easter Bunny!" Jake informed him "No, it's Bunny Suit Guy." Bentley and Jake weren't cutting Koltan any slack. They were tough graders. Koltan completely blanked on The Ocean King. He was thinking too hard trying to come up with Neptune or Poseidon. He did better on the Aztec Warrior. He first said Mayan, but I gave him a second chance and he got it right. I was impressed he got that one. He did not identify the Evil Dwarf even after I pointed out the figure's diminutive stature. He got the Viking, but spaced on the Space Pirate. Jake was disappointed that Koltan couldn't identify Boba Fett. Doesn't Koltan read our blog?!
About then Viva showed up and presented Koltan with her drawing. I think he got the message: You are Persona Non Grata. Earlier this month when Koltan's sister Cheyenne was visiting, Viva called her stupid because she put on Viva's princess crown. We are working on Viva's hostessing manners. Fortunately, rather than offending her older cousins they find her responses vastly amusing.
Viva didn't stay mad for long because the trio talked Koltan into a game of hide and seek. Viva wasn't going to miss out on that.
Below is a photo of Koltan with Viva's drawing. She drew Bentley in his chair and Koltan in her chair (with the X through him). I asked Viva to be in the photo, but she refused. Jake accommodated me.
