My nephew John who lives in Juneau came to Anchorage with his bride-to-be to be married in the temple on Friday December 20th. His sisters (with their families) and his parents (my twin and her spouse!) also flew in to attend the wedding. His older sister Jess, her husband Ben, and their two young sons stayed at our home Wednesday afternoon through Saturday morning.
It was a very hectic time because of the wedding festivities and everyone wanting to visit with the out-of-towners. Add in the craziness of the week before Christmas and there's no hope of keeping to a schedule or accomplishing anything on a pre-existing to do list.
Wednesday evening there was a pizza party at our home for the in-town cousins to come and visit with the out-of-town cousins. Kara was not home because she was taking the boys to karate and then went to do her church calling. Mark was not home because he was working and at his church calling. Matt was not home because he was at work and then at karate with Jake and Bentley who were doing a belt test. I threw a few thousand Legos on the toy table to entertain our guests.
Thursday the bride and groom and their parents arrived in Anchorage late because their scheduled flight overflew Juneau. Everyone was scrambling to get to the first wedding event. People were coming and going at our house.
Friday was the wedding. It was a morning wedding at the LDS temple. After the wedding everyone converged on Olive Garden which is not a good idea at noon time on a holiday weekend if you don't have reservations! We waited and waited and waited to be seated. Some of our group gave up and left to do other things. Finally the remaining 18 of us were seated and eventually served. Jake and Viva went with me to Olive Garden and Viva barely made it home in time for her dance class.
Friday evening was a family dinner. Viva missed the dinner because she was at her tumbling classes. After the dinner the trio went over to Grandma Karen's and Grandpa Tim's for an overnighter. Our guests left early Saturday morning.
The cousins are playing with Magformers. I scooped the Legos off the toy table and back into a bin because Evan would not quit eating them and throwing them everywhere.
Talmadge and Trampas with their Aunt Sarah
Tal and Tram with their parents leaving for the airport Saturday morning.
Is our schedule less hectic now that the wedding is over and our guests have left? Maybe a little bit, but we are in the final sprint to Christmas and that's always a chaotic time: last minute grocery shopping and gift buying, the final round of gift wrapping, the holiday meal preparation, and yet more cookie baking.
