Photos of Our Readers

Because the children all love to read they spend a good portion of the day reading and I get lots of opportunities to photograph them "in the reading zone". Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Bentley usually reads on the couch, but he and Lincoln were hanging out together so he opted for the floor. B's reading the first of the Warrior cats super editions. The super editions are 500 pages long. He had just finished book 9 (out of 15) in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series by Kathryn Lasky and now he returned to the world of Warrior cats for a good read.

Viva is reading one of our many, many Christmas books. Kara started a Christmas book collection two (?) years ago. We wrap up 25 (or more!) Christmas books and then the children take turns picking one each evening in December to have read out loud (usually by their dad) to them. The books are then placed in a box near the tree and the children reread them whenever they like. All three read the books on their own, but Viva is the Christmas book reading champ.

In this photo Jake and Bentley are both reading the same book series, Dragon Slayers' Academy by Kate McMullan. Kara checked the first one out from the library a few months back for Bentley. The books are short (90 pages) which is perfect for Jake. Both boys find them very humorous. I bought the first five in the series to send to Mexico with the boys. B read 2-4 while on vacation, but J needed a little help to get started. Now that he's started he's chomping right through the series. I purchased the next five (at the used book store!) and so B is reading one of those while J reads one of the earlier ones in the series. B can read three or four of the books in a single day, if he isn't burdened with other activities!

Here's Viva later in the week reading the Dragon Slayers' Academy series. Jake likes to read parts of the book out loud and his readings convinced Viva to give the series a try. She finished the book in just three days. She's hooked now and is reading book 2 in the series.

And finally B on a cold winter day wearing a hat to stay warm while he reads Christmas stories. Isn't he cute? That's not something I say as often about the six year old. It's hard to be cute when you have a two month old brother, a seventeen month old brother, and younger twin siblings. The bottom line for cute is pretty darn high at our house.
