What's the Big Deal?

Jackson is a male who knows what he wants and what he doesn't want. He doesn't waste time on things that aren't important to him. Walking--it's just not that big a deal. All babies learn to walk. Why rush it? It's more energy efficient to have adults haul you around than to walk on your own two feet. The extra cuddle time is great, too.

Teeth--who needs them when mom owns a super duper immersion blender? She blends all the chunky food, so no teeth are needed to chew. Eventually, I'm sure, Jackson will get a full set. Just this past week his first two upper teeth emerged. They are sharp, but very short--not useful yet.

Genevieve can waste her time impressing the adults with her walking and her teeth. Jackson has better things to do.

Like play with favorite toys. His current favorite is a little wooden pull toy. (He loves toys with attached strings.)

PS Here's the latest victim of Genevieve's impressive teeth. She's now chewing up hard plastic balls!

Happy 81st, Great-Grandpa Hill!

This past week (June 17th) my Grandpa celebrated his 81st birthday. My Mom and the kids & I went out there to celebrate with him. Ok, I'll be honest. We went out there to celebrate with him AND eat the cake my Mom made for him. :-) Grandpa always has chocolate cake with a thick penoche (caramel) frosting - very yummy.

As is sometimes the case with group photos, not all of the subjects cooperate at the same time. Above was the best of the bunch. And where is Bentley? I was having enough trouble with 3 in the shot, adding a 4th just wasn't happening!
Here they are gazing at each other instead of the camera. That's okay - I hear these types of photos (where the subjects are seen as more natural, in their element, and unaware of the camera) are in vogue right now.

Stroller Mania

It started with 1 baby and 1 stroller, a very nice one received as a gift from Grandpa Tim & Grandma Karen. Matt & Bentley logged (and continue to log) many many hours with this stroller. It's nice for walks, but along the way I decided I needed a little light weight fold up umbrella stroller to throw in the vehicle.

2 strollers, 1 baby. Not so bad, right?! Then came the bike trailer/convertable walking stroller. I purchased this towards the end of summer, and then being pregnant with twins wasn't really compatable with biking. I realized I wouldn't get much biking in with 3 small children and only 2 spots in the bike trailer, so I resold it.

Zoom forward to Kara, about 4 months pregnant with twins, contemplating how she will manage to go anywhere, ever, with 3 small children. In order to avoid the stress of the real issue that I'm outnumbered 3 to 1, I focused (and still focus?!) on practical issues, such as transportation.

1st came the triple stroller, a Peg Perego beauty that retails for almost 4 figures new (yes, yikes!). I found it used for much less. At first I envisioned loading this beast into the back of the vehicle and using it everywhere. But, although that's doable, it's really rather large and not that fun to take apart. So on those random occasions when I (or more likely Matt) want to take all 3 kids out for a long neighborhood walk, this is the stroller for the job. Holds up to 45 lbs per seat, has an awesome "bounce" suspension system (seriously, a suspension system in a stroller? it's crazy!), and you can arrange the seats facing forward/backwards/or random combinations of the two. Here's Bentley taking the twins out for a spin to test it out:

Next up? A Graco Duoglider, which you can snap 2 Graco carseats into OR use to push 2 older kids in. 35 lbs and rather bulky, but it's one of the cheaper double strollers out there. It is a tandem, which means the kids sit one in front and one in back.

Now we're at 4 strollers. I found another steal of a deal on Craig's list and decided we NEEDED to have a side by side umbrella stroller. 5 strollers.

I took a break for the rest of the pregnancy. I had to, the garage was running out of room and Matt was noticing the multiplying strollers! Fast forward to the arrivial of the twins. Carrying 2 babies in 2 carseats plus a toddler, I realized that my post C-section body (to be honest - not even my in regular shape body!) wasn't enjoying hefting 35 lbs of duo glider in and out of my SUV. So I succumbed to the Snap-N-Go, which is a light weight frame that you snap the carseats into. It has no use once your kidlets outgrow the carseats, but it was VERY convienent while it lasted. A picture of stroller #6:

#7... the twins started getting too large for their carseats, and my fingers started tapping away online looking at the options. I was not in love with the DuoGlider, I wanted a light weight stroller that is small and easy to use, for use while shopping. The craigs list steal of a deal on a basic double umbrella stroller had already been moved over to the Grandparents house for the occasional walk to the park.

I wanted something with a few more features (reclinable seats, easy to fold, LIGHT!!). I settled on the Peg Perego Aria, and after scouring Craigs list for a couple months gave in and purchased my first full price stroller.

The Aria is the lightest side by side stroller on the market today, weighing in at only 14 lbs. I love it! Bentley isn't so sure (he's not always a stroller fan):

This spring, consumed by a moment (or more than one, to be honest) of stroller envy I finally gave in and purchased BOB - stroller #8.

You can see more about BOB in my post earlier this week. BOB is a jogger and we use him for all the wild outdoor terrain we encounter. He's very easy to push. Emboldened by the prior purchase of 8 strollers I went all out and decided to go for the fancy stroller with all the options I wanted - full sun screen canopies that wrap all the way around (individually for each kid), both fixed and swivel options for the front tire, and an accessory package that includes a very nice weather wrap around shield so we can go walking in the snow and rain and hail (oops - maybe not the last one!). Jackson is not as impressed with BOB as I am:

Should I confess that the total tally would be 9 if counting the bike trailer/jogger stroller that I purchased and then resold without ever using? :-)
So although we've owned 9 strollers, at the moment we only have 5 in the garage. That's less than 2 per child. Quite reasonable!

The incredible BOB

Let me introduce you to BOB. BOB lives with us, although we make him stay in the garage. BOB, as you can see, is the cool type of guy that likes to see his name in all caps. BOB spends a lot of time with the kids, travels on all our big adventures with us, and is always up for the job of holding the kids. BOB even enjoys coaxing my babies into napping! BOB and I get along well.

The BOB Revolution Duallie is the newest of my strollers. Since he's so awesome you may be wondering why I haven't introduced you to him yet. Well... I have a bit a stroller obsession, and as BOB was the 8th to join our fold I've had to work up the courage to mention him!

How can I explain?! I probably can't adequately explain.

Nonetheless, the whole sordid story of justification will follow in another post - stay tuned!

But for now, suffice it to say that this spring I succumbed to stroller envy and brought home BOB from REI. In my defense I'll throw out there that I scoured the Internet for the best deal on BOB, found a coupon, and then when BOB went on sale for even cheaper just a few weeks later - I went back for the additional refund!

I never thought I'd need a jogger stroller. I'm not a jogger, I'm not a huge fan of the great outdoors, and BOB is big. So how did we end up with BOB? I've found that pushing 2 increasingly heavy small children around on anything other than flat surfaces requires a stroller with nice big wheels. And despite my lack of love for the outdoors I'm learning that having kids means your likes and dislikes change. Or, at the very least, they get changed for you for a time!
BOB has been a dream to handle - he almost moves without being pushed! For someone such as myself who doesn't get out and exercise much a stroller that moves on its own is a big plus. I find myself hurrying to keep up with my stroller, in fact, as it gets going down the street.

BOB is even big enough that on occasion you can catch Bentley lounging in the front area when he needs a breather from running around at the zoo/on the coastal trail/walking to the park... wherever we are, BOB is there for us!

I'm a huge fan of BOB, as you may be starting to suspect. My enthusiasm for him was contagious, and infected my friend Amrita. Check out our matching BOBs (I stole the photo from Amrita's blog):

The mountain in the background is Sleeping Lady. :-) When we go out in public with our matching BOBs we attract more than a bit of attention. Today someone asked if both sets of babies were mine, and when I pointed to Amrita and said no, they asked her if both sets belonged to her. Hmmm.... Sometimes we just get the people who ask us if they're twins, but sometimes we get those who ask us if they're our kids and when we say yes they ask if we're SURE! Are we sure?!? Hmmm... apparently we're too young looking. But I digress. Back to BOB!

I suspect that BOB does, on some days, spend more time holding the kids than their father does. In Matt's defense this is because he's at work earning us money to pay for all the things I buy (including BOB!). To be completely honest BOB may spend more time holding that twins than I do on some days! :-)

To wrap it up... I love BOB. Before having kids I didn't know I could love a stroller. But I do!

Cute?!

She looks cute and innocent and happy.

Take a closer look at those teeth. They are not so innocent. They are deadly. Here's an example of the damage they can do.

Viva has a foam ball problem. She eats them. I think she's destroyed all the foam balls at her home over the past few weeks. This afternoon she ate the Nerf ball (!!) while we were visiting her great-grandparents. She was very upset with me when I took the ball away. At least she doesn't swallow the foam.

The Man of the Day

Happy Father's Day, Matt!! Matt started off the day with bath time duty, and then he was a great sport and did feeding duty x 3 - never an easy job.

The kids are lucky to have such an involved Father. I'm lucky to have an involved husband. Thanks for all you do for us, Matt!

Cousin Sarah

Kara's cousin Sarah who lives in Juneau was visiting the extended family in Anchorage this past week. She spent some time with Bentley, Viva, and Jake because...well, for lots of good reasons. They are super fun kids. She was hanging with me and I always hang with them. She's going to go to Mexico with them in November and so she needed some bonding time with them.

How did it go? Did the trio convince her that she made the right decision in saying yes to a trip to Mexico with them? Maybe. Maybe not. *grin* They had some good times with her. They kept her hopping. They also showed her just how loud two cranky boy children could be. In a public store. Okay, three public stores. But that was just a minor part of her experiences with them. Most of the time they were happy and fun loving. They usually are.

Bentley bonded with Sarah. He wore her out making her chase him up and down the hallway. He was impressed with her great b-ball skills, as I'm sure she was with his. Viva was her good buddy. And then there's Jake. Jake is going through a difficult stage and he wasn't able at this time to extend his trust beyond his current tight little circle. I'm sure in November he'll reach out to her. He's a fun little guy when he's feeling secure. He's got the best little chuckle. (Viva's is mighty fine, too. Baby laughter is totally divine.)

The Water Table

One evening earlier this week I filled the sand and water table with water and then sat back to see who enjoyed a wet playtime. I was pretty sure that Viva would enjoy it. She's a hands on girl. She doesn't mind getting dirty or wet. I wasn't sure what Jake would think about it. He can be picky about his activities.

He loved it! He laughed and splashed and had a good time. Bentley came over and joined the twins at the table.

At the end of the play session Viva was very wet, especially her shirt. She had even started pouring water (very purposefully) on her eldest brother. He was NOT amused.

I scheduled this play session right before bedtime, so wet clothes weren't a problem. It was time for pjs!

Nemo & The Toilet

I'm not entirely sure I should consider this one of my finer parenting moments... BUT it is amusing (and it worked) so I decided it was worth sharing.

Although not yet convinced that the toilet is completely awesome, Bentley is convinced that flushing the toilet is very fun. Lately he's gotten in the habit of wiping his nose, dumping the tissue in the toilet, flushing the toilet, and repeating the process. Over and over.

Maybe you're thinking I should just make him stop - easier said than done though. I finally had a brilliant (or twisted?) moment though and explained to him that when he flushes the toilet all those extra times that he doesn't really need to that it hurts Nemo.

Bentley is a HUGE Nemo fan lately. He requests that the book be read every single day. We rented him the movie thinking he might like it, but I think the sharks and music were a bit much for him - so it's back to the book and I can't say I mind that he's not hooked on Disney movies. Anyway... I took advantage of this love for Nemo and in a perhaps somewhat loosely (very loosely?!) true way explained to him why we shouldn't waste water.

So now he throws his tissues in the trash can, and explains to me that he doesn't want to hurt Nemo. I love it. Did I mislead him a bit? Perhaps... but I still love it!

My New Microwave & Convection Oven!

After 3 months of price matching I went out and bought a new appliance I've had my eye on. This past weekend my Father and my Husband labored away for a few hours to install my new toy. I know it wasn't at the top of their fun list, so I really appreciate the free labor provided. :-) Thank you!!!

And how does this relate to the kids, you maybe be wondering? Simple! I now have a oven way up high - it's going to become the primary oven, because it's out of the reach of my 3 little helpers. It can microwave, it can bake cakes, it can proof bread, it can steam vegetables - a wonder machine! I'm in love. :-)

The Delights of Potty Training

Back in my B.K. (before kids) days I read parenting books. Now that I'm actually in the violent throws of parenting I still like the idea of reading the books, but I don't find the free time quite as often. Anyway... back in the days, I believed that children should be potty trained at 1 year of age. I read about how it's only in the United States (and other developed countries), and only in the past 50 years or so, that parents have chosen to delay training until 2, 3, or even 4 years of age. In 3rd world nations where disposable diapers just aren't a viable option, children are still trained around 1. And in our country it's only since disposable diapers became cheap (relatively) that it became easy for parents to avoid toilet training.

Anyway, I had lots of grand ideas on potty training Bentley at 1 year of age. Because if it can be done, of course I would be able to do it! Fast forward to Bentley's 1st birthday, with Kara on her on again off again bed rest regime, pregnant with twins. I decided to wait. Since then I've skimmed a few more books, read a few websites, and purchased a few boxes of Pull Ups at Costco. I decided that 1 day training wasn't for us, but when a friend suggested 3 day training I thought ok - that sounds like a go!

Step stools? Check. Toddler underwear? Check. Rewards for training? Check. We were ready to go!

The gist of the program involved a sudden transition from diapers to underwear and the notion that if you run your child to the toilet evertime they start to go within 3 days it will "click" and they'll be trained. It works for many children. Further internet searches on this book AFTER my attempt at training revealed there are plenty of kids it doesn't work for as well.

My sweet child turned into a bit of a monster by the end of day 2 (and, I will admit, so did I). We both wanted out of the house, but I wasn't keen on having him pee his pants in public. And the book told us we should stay home and concentrate on our potty training for 3 days straight. So, although Bentley was pulling on the door handle and screaming "me out" by the end of day 2, we kept at it. In my search for a magic bullet I even gave in and bought a toddler toilet to try - a big concession for me, as I believe in taking full advantage of the fact we have indoor plumbing.

Bentley is still young enough that he really wants to please me. So he did (and is doing) an awesome job of letting us know when he needs to use the toilet. Unfortunately, although he's willing to sit on the toilet for about 2 seconds then he tells us he's done. He repeats this routine of requesting "potty"!!!, then jumping off without any results about 20 times in a row after which he uses his underwear or pull up because he's way too stressed to go on the toilet.

He's taking his stress over this whole change in his life style out on his siblings, me, and his Grandma. He's started hitting, biting, knocking over... not that he never hit before, but it's become much more frequent this past week.

After day 3 I couldn't handle it anymore (and neither could he), so we moved on to the diaper industries great brain child of pull ups (make them look a tiny bit like underwear instead of a diaper and charge customers twice as much - it really is a clever plan!!!). We still run to the toilet about 40 times a day, but at least I don't have to do that AND stay in the house all day AND change his pants and underwear 6 times a day. He's still stressed out, but the peanut butter cookie dough and I are trying to make him happier!

On the plus side, he can hold it for a LONG time, so night training is not an issue! Starting on day 2 of our venture into this toilet training Bentley has woken up dry every morning after 10 straight hours in bed - I'm impressed! So we're just going to tell people he's night trained, and if they want to assume that means of course he's day trained as well...

:-)

It's been a rough week at our house. I've had to deal with my pride (dang it, why can't I make this simple process work!) as well as with a stressed out toddler, an abused Genevieve (she gets the brunt of Bentley's *attention*), and a slightly grumpy Jackson (we hypothisize he's teething - better that than say he's often this grumpy!!).

Wish us luck. Hopefully it will click sometime soon before I actually start praying that Bentley will forget this whole experience and just keep using his diaper to give me some peace from the frequent bathroom pit stops!

The Pony Bonanza

This past Saturday I hit a good string of garage sales and was able to score some more brightly colored plastic toys for my easy to please under 3 crowd. I suppose I could have waited for the upcoming 1st birthday to give some of the toys to the twins... but I lack patience and like to see their excitement with my finds RIGHT AWAY! After a lot of Clorax wipes and some soap, may I present my favorite find of the day: a lovely assortment of My Little Ponies - 17 of them for the easy to swallow price of $3.00!

Genvieve is entertained with her new toys. Bentley eyed them briefly but some how his hard wired little boy brain seemed to know these are "girly" toys - he threw them down after a quick look and told me they're "Viva's". Okay, good to know. :-) Jackson decided to follow Bentley's lead, but maybe he'll warm up to the in the next week. We'll see.

As is always the case with new toys the price is only half the issue - because after buying them you have to store the new treasures. In my eagerness to provide Genevieve with some more non ball and non truck toys for the house I forgot, yet again, that now I have another collection of *toys* to put somewhere. Ah well - if it provides entertainment to the little cherubs I can handle having something else to trip over in my kitchen and living room!

Trivia

I thought I'd write down some trivia about the grandchildren. Small details that don't warrant an entire post, but are nonetheless interesting little facts. (Note: It's my post so I get to decide what's interesting!)

Jackson is starting to stand more on his own, but utterly refuses to take a step. NOT HIS THING. Genevieve is a good walker now. She can walk without falling down and walks as often as she crawls, but she has a Frankenstein-like gait. She puts her feet wide apart. I guess it gives her better balance, but it makes for lurching steps. You try walking with your feet spread further apart then your shoulders.

Both twins are quite good at going up stairs. It's hard to keep track of two babies when they don't crawl at the same pace. They aren't as good at going down stairs.

Genevieve hates to be locked up. When she is put in her crib for a nap she screams loudly for a couple of minutes being going to sleep. When I put her in the play yard at my mom's to keep her out of trouble, she instantly starts crying. She likes to roam around.

Jackson is much mellower during both of these operations. He's better about going down for naps and he doesn't usually cry when put in the play yard--unless Genevieve's bad mood sets him off. (I bet his mom was startled to see me use the word mellow in conjunction with Jackson, but it's TRUE!)

We all love to hear Bentley talk. He and his Grandma Vicki had a long conversation on the phone recently. (His mom said it was a thirty minutes conversation?!) He says most words quite clearly, although he often holds onto the end sound a little longer than is typical in our culture. It's very charming. He uses pronouns correctly, too.

His vocabulary often surprises me. He knows all kinds of words that I don't think of as common. I'm not talking about words like excavator--he doesn't say that yet. (It has too many syllables, I think.) I meant words like tip. That's not a common word. The other day I asked him if he was going to the playground with his mom. He told me, "No, park!" The child is a grin a minute.

The twins continue to please their mother greatly with their willingness to try new foods. They usually like them, although occasionally they will spit something out repeatedly. Jackson is a little pickier than Genevieve. He's easier to feed, though, because he will open his mouth wide. Genevieve barely opens her mouth and then traps the spoon with her little teeth and sometimes you have to wrestle the spoon back from her.

Bentley still turns down almost all new foods, but once in a while he surprises us and gives something new a try. Yesterday he tried and liked pepperoni. If he likes it, he'll ask for seconds and then want more at the next meal. Some of his favorite foods are grapes, peppers, peanut butter cookie dough, noodles with butter, and string cheese.

Jackson still puts a lot of small toys into his mouth. He particularly likes single block Mega Blocks and trains. Genevieve isn't as likely to put toys into her mouth; instead she eats dirt and the kitty's tail. Yuck.

The twinks are quite good at using Sip-A-Mugs. Jackson likes to drink from it himself, but if you leave it in his hands he's quite likely to pour a goodly amount of the drink on himself.

Well, that's a few trivia facts about the grandchildren. They are awesome.

Hand Print Art

I am constantly inspired by all the great blogs full of ideas on cooking, crafting, child raising... it's a wonder I find any time to actually parent what with all the blogs there are to read (just kidding)!

That thought aside, art with small children is sometimes more work than it ought to be. I saw some fun hand print ideas for Mother's Day and wanted to give a few of the projects a try. I knew Bentley would count himself out as he doesn't like messy hands. I'm currently wondering if they make mini latex gloves for little hands - perhaps if his hands were covered he'd be willing to explore more dirt/paint/fun? Anyway - with no hands available from Mr. B that left me with the twins. Oddly enough they weren't really thrilled to have their hands covered in finger paint and then pressed on to paper - but they were good enough sports.

Without further ado, here is the lovely flower hand print art of Jackson & Genevieve:

My Little Fire Fighter

A couple weeks ago Bentley's Grandma bought him a fire fighters helmet at the Toy Store - it has been a big hit. A couple days ago he put his hat on, came into the kitchen, and proclaimed:

"I'm a hot boy"! I said "What did you say"?? And he repeated it a couple times. He wandered around for the rest of the day repeating this mantra. Now whenever the hat goes on out comes the catch phrase.

He's so cute! We're not sure where on earth he picked up the expression, but that's okay -he's right - he's quite the hot fire fighter boy. :-)

Baby sign classes

Photo and cute text courtesy of Amrita! During the month of May the twins and I went to a baby sign language class at our local hospital with Amrita, Patrick, & Cassidy. This past week was our last class, and Jackson and Genevieve received their first graduation certificates:

Yes, I know... a little goofy, but still fun. They didn't have to display any proficiency and yet they still passed (funny - I think that statement could be used to describe how much of our current education system operations)!

Baby signing is quite popular now days, in case you didn't know! Our class used ASL (American Sign Language) as opposed to some of the systems that use made up signs just for "baby signing". In theory this means that what the babies learn will stick with them and be useful in later life. In reality, their mother would have to be dedicated to signing with them consistently for their to be any permanent knowledge gain. I am not quite consistent!

Our take away signs? Stop! No! Wait! Share! Gentle! All done! Please.

Ok, ok. We learned many other signs too (or at least I did - I'm not sure about the twinks). But for some reason those few are at the top of my favorites list...

The class was worth the $$ though, if you're wondering. The kids enjoyed the socialization, and we got out and did something new. Last but not least, I came away with 2 great take aways:

1) Fred Meyers and Safeway will give my children free cookies to eat while I shop. Cool!!
2) Bubbles from the Gymboree store take forever to pop (they can last a few days I hear), so they are very fun for babies to play with.

:-)

Fun for One, Not for Two

The twinlets do not like park or school playgrounds. It's quite sad. I had plans to spend hours at the playgrounds and parks this summer with my grandchildren. I'm starting to realize that two of the three grandbabies would not be pleased with my plans. They are too little to enjoy slides. They find them frightening.

Swings are fun, but there aren't many parks (and no school playgrounds) that have infant swings on them.

I realize this is not really an infant swing, but this is just about as good as it gets. I think one or two parks have actual infant swings.

The twins are just starting to walk (I'm sure Jackson will be doing so very soon!), but they aren't up to running around playgrounds yet. Jackson doesn't like the feel of grass, so cavorting on the grass is out. Genevieve would undoubtedly enjoy the chance to eat dirt, but that's not an activity we adults approve of.

The twins will, of course, spend some time at the local parks and playgrounds this summer because Bentley loves to play there and they are a good place to meet up with other moms of toddlers. However, I won't be taking them there as a special treat since sitting in a stroller for an hour isn't really a treat.

I'll take Bentley out on his own and let the twins stay home with mom where they can play with their toys.

Fortunately their back yard play set is more to their liking. There are two infant swings, a sand-water table, and a toddler sized picnic table. There is still the pesky problem of grass and dirt, but one has to expect such in the great outdoors. Jackson will learn to cope. Bentley has.

Excavator Fun

This morning when I woke up and opened my bedroom curtains I was greeted by the site of four large dump trucks and a big excavator sitting on the street in front of our home and the homes of our immediate neighbors.

I knew immediately why they were there--round two of the sink hole repair. Last year the street right next to the end of our neighbor's driveway collapsed. It was a good sized hole--more than a pot hole, but not a major sink hole like what appeared in that small Texas town earlier this month.

Anyway the city sent out a crew from its road department to repair it. In their infinite wisdom they decided it was a natural spring, not a water line leak (they checked for chlorine), and so they put some fill in the hole, compacted it, and paved over it. It wasn't even a month before water started bubbling up through the repair.

So here it is early spring of the following year and the city sent out the water line repair crew. Yes, it was a leak in the water line. (Duh!) They brought in some major equipment and dug up the water line and replaced some of it.

I immediately thought of Bentley. Would he like watching the crew at work? Although he loves to look at photos of heavy equipment and he's truly excited whenever he sees big machines or buses when we're driving around town, he doesn't like loud noises. Heavy duty equipment is noisy when it's being operated. Very noisy.

I decided I should at least give him the opportunity and see what he thought. After lunch I brought him over. For a while he watched through the living room window. Then I took him outside and we stood on the neighbor's lawn and checked out the action. Did you know that excavators can be used as compactors and forklifts? They had a real compactor that they used for one stage of the work, but more often they just pounded on the dirt with the shovel. The excavator is quite the all utility piece of equipment.

Bentley watched the action quite intently, but he didn't say much while we were outside. When he was watching from inside, he kept me informed of every dirt load they put back in the hole. I think he enjoyed the experience.

After a while he and I walked down to the park. He slid down the slides. We came home. He ate a little. Opa called from DC where he is on a business trip. While I chatted on the phone Bentley scattered the plastic ware across the kitchen floor. He hasn't done that in a while. Nice to know that this stage isn't done at two years and four months. It'll be forever until the twins will be done ransacking the cupboards. *sigh*

I gave Bentley the phone and then cleaned up the mess.

Afterwards we went out to the hot tub. He took his first head dunk. He was a good sport about it. You never know how young children are going to react. They keep life interesting.

P.S. My hard work in studying the names (i.e. repetitive reading with Bentley) of the heavy equipment is paying off. This afternoon I was able to impress the mothers of two other toddlers when I could tell them the proper name for a digger is an excavator. I was quite surprised that the one mom didn't know that as she had an almost three year old son. How does one avoid knowing such facts with a small boy in the house?!
