Swimming Is On Again

Bentley, Viva, and Jake are taking their third session of summer swim lessons. The boys missed the first three lessons because their trip to Idaho was scheduled after swim lessons had already been paid for. Sometimes you have to make tough choices. The boys went to Idaho. Viva went to the first three lessons on her own.

She is making good progress this session and is starting to swim a little on her own! She can float on her back and her stomach. She's doing great. Bentley is learning different strokes and having a great time. Jake is working on taking those first, scary strokes on his own. He's close to doing so. We hope to get in another session of swim lessons this fall. Knowing how to swim is important.

Swim lessons are at the university's pool and the lawn in front of the sports complex is awesome. I let the kids play on it for a few minutes before we head home. There is a section of lawn containing a small valley--down and then up. It's a big hit with my little people. Viva was wearing a pastel dress yesterday afternoon, so I told her she could not roll down the hill, but she could run around. Instead she climbed a tree. It's not a good idea to climb trees with bare legs. That's just my opinion. Viva didn't care if she got her legs all scraped up. She was having fun. It's rare to find a good climbing tree in Anchorage, so I felt bad yanking her out of the tree, but I wasn't sure the university allowed tree climbing.
