Good Weather Gone Bad

We posted about the wonderful snow that we had in early November. It was great. The winterscapes were gorgeous. The winter athletes were thrilled. All was right and good in our northern corner of the U.S.

Then last weekend we had two days of hurricane force chinook winds. Nasty. Inappropriate! Warm winds (not hurricane force) are fine in the spring to get rid of the snow, but they are not not not welcome in December! We want snow in December. We like snow in December.

The winds melted most, but not all, of the snow. Our street was flooded like in the spring. The children's play set was blown over.

It doesn't look that bad, but unfortunately, the playhouse fell on the swing set demolishing it. We had some problems last year with the winds causing splits in the wood supports of the swing set. I think we are going to have to find a new spot for the surviving portion of the playground set.

There were a couple of leaks in window seals in the house and a portion of the retaining wall at the end of the driveway came down. It wasn't in perfect condition to start with, but it was upright. We didn't get around to working on it last summer because we were concentrating on our lawn. Now fixing the wall is near the top of the yard to do list. After the playground set?

We need a good snowstorm.
