Headsprout....Again...and Again!
Once again our household is mired in Headsprout reading lessons. Earlier this year Bentley did the 80 online lessons over a three month period. We worked hard to make sure that he did lessons every day except Sunday so that he could keep his momentum building. When Jake saw Bentley doing the lessons, he asked to do them. We put him off until just recently. We let him do the first two lessons two weeks ago. He did well only struggling a little with using the mouse. On the iPad there is no external mouse, so it's a new skill for him and Viva.
Viva had expressed no interest in doing the Headsprout program until Jake started doing it. Then she demanded that we let her do the lessons, too. She did the first two lessons the week before last as well. She was a quick study with the mouse. She's done great on the lessons except for one we did in the evening when it was quite noisy. Since then we've done the lessons earlier in the day when no one is playing nearby.
Now it's week three of the reading program and we will continue on until the twins are reading books. Then we'll read books together. And study phonics, too.
Working with the twins is different than working with Bentley. Bentley was five when he did the program and the twins are only four. It makes a big difference, but they didn't want to wait. They want to learn to read now, so it's best to seize the moment.
